Nevada Rare Disease Advisory Council Explains ‘While You Wait’ Campaign on Vegas PBS’ Nevada Week

The Nevada Rare Disease Advisory Council was formed during the 2019 Legislative Session. Its mission is to improve the lives of those families affected by rare diseases by giving them a stronger voice in state government.

The ‘While You Wait Campaign’ starts this process to determine the incidence of rare diseases in Nevada and the challenges faced by those affected.

Annette Logan-Parker, Nevada Rare Disease Advisory Council Chair, Dr. Joseph Lasky, Medical Director, Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, and Tiffany Ruben, mother of four children affected by an ultra-rare disease called Niemann Pick Disease, Type C, appear on Vegas PBS’ Nevada Week.

American Lung Association in Nevada’s LUNG FORCE Walk is Saturday, May 11, 2024

The American Lung Association in Nevada estimates that 2,100 Nevadans will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year. The LUNG FORCE Walk is part of a national movement to defeat lung cancer by increasing awareness of the disease and working to increase funding for research.

Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer, including those who have never smoked. Thanks to the American Lung Association, the National Institutes of Health have increased funding for lung cancer research by 130 percent. Since 2016, the Food and Drug Administration has approved more than 50 new lung cancer treatments. The LUNG FORCE Walk is an essential part of this effort

The first Nevada Clean Energy Fair was a remarkable showcase of the latest clean energy products from several vendors. In addition, a series of panel discussions featured a lineup of experts. These experts, with their deep knowledge in financing, tax credits, incentives, and more, provided invaluable insights to the attendees.

The Nevada Clean Energy Fair, a collaborative effort of Sol-Up Solar, Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, Nevada Conservation Fund, Citizens’ Climate Lobby, The Nevada Clean Energy Fund, and many other organizations, was a resounding success.

More than $255K Raised At Scale the STRAT 2024

Nearly 700 stair climbers tackled all 108 floors and 1,455 steps up the iconic STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower on February 25.

The tower climb is the American Lung Association in Nevada’s major fundraiser of the year and supports the nonprofit’s lung health education, advocacy and research efforts.

Clark County’s Spring Job Fair Huge Success!

Clark County Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom and Commissioner Jim Gibson host the popular free job fair in partnership with Employ NV of Southern Nevada. The job fair is the largest annual job fair in the state.

A few highlights:
-824 people were hired on-the-spot
-136 employers representing a variety of industries participated
-4,000 job seekers looking for new opportunities.
