Winners Announced in Stratosphere Design Challenge!

January 30, 2014 by Mitch

The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower recently asked Ms. Ashley Stroud’s graphic design students at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA) to create a poster to represent some of the activities happening at the property during the “Big Game” weekend.  To foster a little creative competition, the Stratosphere agreed to pick a first, second and third place winner.  Micah Smits was awarded first place, Rochelle Skodi was second, Tara Tran came in third.

For their efforts, the top three winners will attend the Art Institute of Las Vegas’ Summer Studio Workshop at the Stratosphere’s expense  All participants received an unlimited day pass for themselves and a guest to experience the thrill rides on top of the Stratosphere Tower, as well as  four passes to the buffet!

The Stratosphere’s partnership with LVA began in 2013 when Stratosphere headliner Frankie Moreno, and his song writing brothers, held a series of workshops with LVA students. Many students got the opportunity to perform during Frankie Moreno’s shows in the Stratosphere Theater during the summer.  David Perrico – Pop Evolution, who perform the first Tuesday each month in the Stratosphere Theater, performed on campus for LVA students in September. Perrico plans to offer a master class to Jazz students in the spring.

Additionally, cast and crew from the Stratosphere’s PIN UP™ starring Claire Sinclair, plan to work with students in the areas of dance, show production, costuming, and set design.

Posters made by the students are on display at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower near the Registration Desk.
