Modified Business Tax Can Be Donated to Help Lower Income Families Attend Charter/Private Schools

October 6, 2021 by Mitch

A change in tax policy by the Nevada Legislature allows Nevada businesses that owe Modified Business Tax to donate all or a portion of the tax to grant educational scholarships to lower income families.

The scholarships can be used at Nevada charter or private schools. Families that earn 300 percent of the Federal poverty level – or less – are eligible to apply for the scholarships. (Generally, a family of four earning less than $79,000 is eligible.)

Businesses can make the donation to any one of six (6) approved Scholarship Granting Organizations which will provide scholarships to eligible children. Students can receive up to $8,262 for K-12 private or charter school tuition and fees.

Bank of Nevada has contributed a significant amount of donations to the program to help lower income families make the best educational choice for their family.
