“Feed a Family” Program Continues Thru the Holiday Season
LAUGHLIN, NV – December 3, 2013 – Three hundred and sixty families who struggle with hunger in the tri-state area were able to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday meal this year thanks to the very generous players at Aquarius Casino Resort.
As part of Aquarius’ second annual “Feed a Family” program, local agencies that distribute food to those less fortunate received three hundred and sixty boxes of Thanksgiving meals large enough to feed a family of four. Each box contained traditional holiday favorites like turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberries, vegetables, potatoes, rolls and pie.
The meals were paid for by Aquarius players who generously contributed their ace | PLAY ™ points which are normally redeemed for comps, cash or free play.
“We are happy to contribute to such a worthy cause and give back to our community,” said John and Joan Zirhut of Bullhead City, AZ. “It’s the right thing to do,” said several other players who contributed points to the effort.
“I am incredibly impressed by the continued generosity of our players. They understand that Thanksgiving isn’t Thanksgiving without a turkey on the table and they want to help,” said Aquarius Casino Resort General Manager Sean Hammond. “Thanks to our players’ support and the hard work of our team members, we are on track to feed more than 1,000 local families by the end of the Christmas season which is simply outstanding.”
The Thanksgiving meals were distributed to Kingman Food Bank in Kingman, AZ; Golden Valley Food Bank in Golden Valley, AZ; Praise Chapel in Bullhead City, AZ; Colorado River Food Bank in Laughlin, NV; Cornerstone Mission Project in Kingman, AZ; The Women’s Clinic Food Bank in Needles, CA; Interagency Council Food Bank in Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Caring Hearts in Bullhead City, AZ.
“The Kingman Food Bank volunteers and I want to say a special thank you to all the players and employees at the Aquarius for the donations of dinners for us to give to the needy families in the Kingman area during this Thanksgiving holiday,” said Betty Kahlor, Executive Director at the Kingman Food Bank. “It is caring employees and guests, such as the ones at the Aquarius, who make it possible to help so many more have an enjoyable dinner.”
Darryl Dauenhauer, Treasurer for the Colorado River Food Bank noted the enormous time and effort spent organizing the food drive. “The Aquarius has made this holiday season a little brighter for many families in our community,” said Dauenhauer.
Aquarius Casino Resort’s second annual “Feed a Family” program began November 1 and will continue through December 20, 2013. Just like Thanksgiving, for every 12,000 ace | PLAY ™ points donated, Aquarius will donate a box of holiday items for a Christmas meal to a local agency that distributes food. Each box contains enough food to feed a family of four. Last year, this program helped feed more than 900 tri-state families.
